Kenneth Grahame (1859-1932)
Scottish Children’s Writer
Kenneth Grahame is the author of The Wind in the Willows, a great classic of children’s literature. He also wrote The Reluctant Dragon, which was much later adapted into a Disney film.

Kenneth Grahame was born in Edinburgh on March 8, 1859. When he was five years old, his mother died of scarlet fever.

John Buchan (1875-1940)
Scottish Novelist and Playwright
John Buchan is best known for action adventure novels, especially The Thirty-Nine Steps and Prester John. He served as the 15th Governor-General of Canada. The Thirty-Nine Steps was made into a film by Alfred Hitchcock in 1935. Since then, there have been other adaptations.

J.M. Barrie (1860-1937)
Scottish Children’s Writer, Novelist and Playwright
Scottish author J.M. Barrie is famous as a children’s writer, best known as the creator of Peter Pan, the much-loved fairy tale celebrating childhood, however, it was The Little Minister that brought him fame and money.
James Matthew Barrie was born on May 9, 1860 in Kirriemuir, Scotland. His family were handloom weavers. His upbringing was strict. Tragedy struck in the family when he was just a boy of six and his brother died.

Sir Walter Scott (1771-1832)
Scottish Novelist and Poet
Sir Walter Scott wrote romantic poems and adventure stories of the past. The setting is often in Scotland. Famous writers whose historical novels he influenced include James Fenmore Cooper, Alexandre Dumas and Aleksandr Pushkin. He popularized his country’s history and traditions.
Sir Walter Scott, First Baronet, was born in Edinburgh, Scotland, on August 15, 1771, the son of a lawyer whose name was also Walter Scott, and a doctor’s daughter.
